Can Vaping Help You Quit Smoking?

E-cigarettes have become a popular alternative to smoking, with some even using them as part of their Stoptober mission to give up smoking altogether. But what actually is an e-cigarette and is it really better than smoking?

What are e-cigarettes?

An e-cigarette, or vape, is a device that allows you to inhale nicotine vapour rather than tobacco smoke that you would inhale from a classic cigarette.

Is it safer than cigarettes?

While vaping isn’t completely risk-free, experts agree that vaping is less harmful than cigarettes. This is because they don’t burn tobacco or produce tar or carbon monoxide, which are the most harmful elements in cigarettes.

E-cigarettes do contain some of the same harmful chemicals as cigarettes, but in much lower quantities, which could make them a useful tool in giving up.

Will they actually help me quit smoking?

Many people report that a vape helped them quit. Using a vape can help you manage your nicotine cravings, if you choose the right strength. In 2017, two thirds of smokers who combined an e-cigarette with support from their local Stop Smoking service were able to give up completely.
